- Genre: Sports Film. Sports films don't have a specific target audience, but sports fans tend to have a large following for such films.
- Genre Conventions- content: Involve equilibrium, disruption, resolutions, success, failure, and relationships between characters.
- Genre Conventions- production techniques: Include a sporting event, a sports athlete, sporting narrative, and a constant state of emotion.
- Institutional Conventions- how is genre marketed: Sport film trailers are usually motivational, show a lot of action, and mostly inspirational as well.
- Film Example #1: The Blind Side (2009). The Blind Side is about a homeless teen of color drifted in and out of school systems because of his low IQ. A white woman and her family take him in and change their life and his for the better as he progresses in school and as a great football player. This movie embodies my genre because it involves an inspirational football player story with a dramatic story behind it.
- Film Example #2: Miracle (2004). Miracle is about a college coach that is hired to coach the 1980 U.S. men's Olympic hockey team. From humiliated college students in a match, the coach unites the team against a common enemy, the soviet union. Based on a true story, as the U.S. squad tries to overcome insurmountable odds and win the gold medal, the team becomes a microcosm for American patriotism during the Cold War. This movie embodies my genre because it is based on a real, inspirational story that involves an Olympic hockey team.
